Mucho Macho Man

This very talented and aptly named colt by Macho Uno out of a Holy Bull mare (Ponche de Leona) has been turning heads from day one and currently has a Grade II win and two Grade II places to his credit.  In partnership between Dream Team Racing Stable and Reeves Thoroughbreds, Mucho Macho Man (dubbed as “M3”) has been doing all the right things on and off the track and possesses a bright future.

Despite being a late foal (June 2008), he has shown a very precocious side balancing tactical speed with an ability to cover the classic distances going long.  He started racing in Florida and after breaking his maiden, M3 has won the Grade II Risen Star at the Fairgrounds and finished second in two Grade II stakes races (Nashua & Remsen) at Aqueduct establishing himself as one of the top two-turn 2 year old runners in the country - landing him squarely on the trail for the 2011 Kentucky Derby.

When foaled, he was thought to have died during the birthing process but to our breeder’s elation, he stood up on his four long legs for the first time ten minutes later.  M3 flourished under the Florida sun and the Rios’ training regiment at Rose Grove farm, that developed the big colt wonderfully.  Since heading to the track, the 17 hand equine athlete has been expertly trained by Bill White and Tim & Kathy Ritvo to maximize his physical attributes as he matures mentally each and every day into a top shelf runner.  Following his fall campaign in NY, he has relocated to Florida to continue his progression as a 3 year old. After winning the Grade II Risen Star, M3 finished a hard charging third in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby and missed winning by less than three lengths. He followed up with a brave effort on a very rough trip and losing his left front shoe leaving the gate in the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes. Mucho Macho Man finished off the Triple Crown by competing in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes.

Currently, M3 has finished on the board in nine of his eleven starts (2 wins, 3 seconds, 3 thirds, 1 fourth) and has secured $610,000 including $570,000 in graded stakes earnings.  All DTRS owners are excited about this promising colt as he pursues the next step in his racing career with more wonderful things to come.

M3 has been relocated to Belmont Park as he continues to train for the Triple Crown races; definitely looking for longer two turn races to continue towards the classic distances.

Go Mucho Macho Man Go – continued successes to M3 and all the DTRS partners!

Southern Review

This extremely quick son of Closing Argument has been a DTRS’ fans favorite.  With blazing speed out of the gate, it was not unusual for Southern Review to set fractions of 21 and 43 seconds in his sprint distances.  He showed great promise from his first race when he won by 10 lengths pulling away and competing against stakes caliber horses.

He flashed quarter horse type speed and the shorter the race the better for this talented colt that wins 40 percent of his races and plays “catch me if you can” with the rest of the field. SR also became the stable's first four-time winner!

Rarely Wrong

This filly was rarely off the board. Regardless of the level and competition, the very game Closing Argument daughter did not shy away from any rival. It was not unusual to see her trailing the field by ten or more lengths only to unleash her signature move and close from out of the clouds.

DTRS partners showed up to her races by the dozens knowing that the chance of a winner’s photo picture was a real possibility.  Winning at a 30% rate and finishing in the money during 70% of the races, she was regarded as one of Calder’s most consistent runners. Her love for the slop got out and became a racing favorite for any off track routes. Unfortunately, it also made her a prime target for purchase and we wish the new owners fun and success with her.

Royal Lord

Dream Team partners have been having fun watching this hard knocking Mr. Greeley gelding for years.  Royal Lord continues to compete gamely every time he goes to the track and seems to have found a "second" racing career when we moved him from turf to dirt. He is a perfect example of the "Team of Excellence" placing the athletes at levels, conditions and surfaces where they can compete and provide the highest value for our owners.

Royal Lord has put an exclamation to his 2010 campaign with back to back wins.  It was the way that he won that impressed all that have seen him race recently.  As a two turn runner, he enjoys hanging out at the back of the pack (often in last place) only to make a bold move from the 1/2 mile pole and circle the field as if the other horses were just standing still to win in convincing fashion.  Royal Lord wants targets to chase and and loves racing for the stable.  He is fit, healthy and feeling good; even as a six year old, we are all looking forward to seeing him run in 2011.
