Trainers

William I. "Bill" Mott

William I. "Bill" Mott earned the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer in 1995 and 1996. He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1998 at the age of 45, becoming the second-youngest trainer ever inducted. Mott started out training and winning with his own thoroughbred horses at age 15, and won the South Dakota Futurity before he was out of high school. He really excelled in the business by working his way up the ranks by becoming first, an exercise rider, then, an Assistant Trainer for legendary Hall of Fame Trainer Jack Van Berg. Mott worked as an Assistant Trainer to the great Jack Van Berg for three years, before striking out on his own in 1978. Hall of Fame jockey and race commentator Jerry Bailey said that Mott is generally regarded as the best trainer for racing on turf and one of the premier trainers on any surface in the United States. He trained the famous Cigar, two time Horse of the Year.

From 1992 through 2007, Mott won 9 training titles at Saratoga Race Course. He won the 2007 Saratoga Trainer's Title with 27 wins marking his first return to that title at the "Spa" since 2001. He's also won 10 titles at Belmont Park and 9 at Gulfstream Park.

Mott set the record for number of victories at a single Churchill Downs meeting with 54 during the 1984 spring meet, has amassed more than 5,000 career wins and ranks fourth in Breeders’ Cup money earned.  More recently, his well trained Royal Delta won the 2011 Breeders Cup Classic & Ladies Classic.

Dale L. Romans

Dale L. Romans, a native of Louisville, Kentucky and the son of an accomplished trainer, grew up around horse racing at Churchill Downs. At age eighteen, Dale embarked on a career as a trainer and getting his first winner 1987 at Turfway Park. Among his most successful horses, Kitten's Joy earned the 2004 American Champion Male Turf Horse honors and Roses in May provided him with the biggest payday of his career to date when he won the $6 million Dubai World Cup in 2005. Dale collected his first Breeders' Cup win in 2009 when Tapitsfly won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

A two-time leading trainer at Keeneland, Romans has won multiple stakes there while adding four at Churchill Downs, one at Pimlico, and three at Hoosier Park. In 2001, he won stakes at six different tracks, making him one of the most versatile and successful trainers practicing today.

In 2009, for the second consecutive year, Dale won the Keeneland fall meet title, notching eight wins and total earnings of $306,639 (he saddled three winners there in a single day and has won 51 total races at Keeneland, nearly 25% of his total starts). He also won his fourth consecutive title at Churchill's spring meet. With many stakes wins to his career, Romans also won the 2004 Kentucky Cup Classic (G2) with Roses in May, who ran second in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) behind Horse of the Year Ghostzapper and then won the Dubai World Cup (G1) in 2005. Romans also campaigned 2004 Eclipse Award turf champion Kitten's Joy, who that year piled up six stakes wins including two Grade I races before running second to Better Talk Now in the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1).  More recently, Dale has trained 2011 Preakness Stakes winner, Shackleford.  Dale also won the 2011 Breeders Cup Turf Mile and was 2nd in the BC Dirt Mile!

William “Bill” White

William “Bill” White has perennially been among the leading trainers in South Florida so it is no surprise that he holds the record for eight consecutive Calder training titles. He has also won five titles at Calder’s Tropical meet and is the third all-time winning trainer at the track. Dream Team Racing Stable has entrusted Bill with starting the race careers for many of our southern based horses including graded stakes bound Mucho Macho Man and the speedy Southern Review. Starting his horsemanship career working with hunters and jumpers, Bill has successfully made the leap to thoroughbred racing.

Holding one of the highest career winning training percentages, Bill has saddled winners in the Florida Stallion Stakes, Donn Handicap, Aventura Stakes and more. In 2010, Bill secured winning percentages (24% for sprints and 20% in distance races) that rank among the highest in the country.

Katherine "Kathy" Ritvo

Katherine "Kathy" Ritvo has been entrusted with the training and well being of DTRS' graded stakes runner, Mucho Macho Man. As part of an expanded partnership with Reeves Thoroughbreds, Kathy became the trainer on record from her husband, Tim Ritvo, when the latter took a lead position in race track management in south Florida. Kathy has long been regarded as a fantastic horsewoman and is able to provide "M3" the ideal care, attention and development he needs to get to the upper echelon of horse racing. She stables her string in Saratoga and Belmont (while in NY) and at Gulfstream when heading south to Florida for the winter meets. Dream Team Racing is extremely pleased with her abilities and is looking forward to a successful future together.

The Ritvos have been producing winners on the track for decades and Kathy's multi-million dollar winning experiences in handling equine athletes has played a substantial part in the confidence our team has in Kathy to develop our athletes.

Joshua Signs

Joshua Signs has been supporting Dream Team Racing Stable in more ways than just getting our horses to the race track. A loyal and consistent professional, Josh is quickly being recognized as one of the best identifiers of “horse flesh” in the business. He has an uncanny eye for spotting good runners so it is not unusual when we contact him to attend horse sales on our behalf to evaluate equine potential.

As a trainer, Josh has proven to have a knack for getting the most out of horses that DTRS sends him and he will continue to be an integral part of our success model going forward.  He wrapped up his 2010 Mountaineer stats in top fashion winning nearly 30% of his races and finishing 100% of his mounts in the money!

Patrick "Pat" Quick

Pat Quick has been a solid trainer for Dream Team Racing Stable for nearly a decade and has been an integral part to our string's successes with consistent and steady production.  Pat stables at Belmont Park and runs the Saratoga, Belmont, Aqueduct circuit while successfully placing horses for races at a great rate over the winter meet.

Pat has been ultra consistent as a trainer in the lucrative NY tracks and we look forward to having Pat as part of our racing stable for a long time to come.  Since day one of our relationship, he has been a very approachable trainer and popular with our partners that visit the barn, trackside or the paddock during pre-race festivities.

Jeff C. Runco

Jeff Runco is the most recent addition to the "Team of Excellence" list of trainers.  Jeff has consistently been the top conditioner of horses at the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town race track with impressive results. He has been crowned as top trainer for many of the years since 1985 winning at 20%+ for his career and finishing in the money at over 50% with nearly 15,000 races to his credit; for 2010, he wins at 22% and places 53% of those he saddles in the money.

Few trainers nationally have reached the 3,000 mark in wins and Jeff reached this in April of 2011.  Along with his high percentages, he has earned nearly 30 million dollars for his connections including victories in multiple stakes races.

Jeff will be Dream Team Racing Stable's trainer of choice for the mid Atlantic tracks and will be based out his home string in Charles Town.  The DTRS team is proud to include him as part of this dynamic group of successful professionals that put the care of the horse first and foremost.

Dallas Stewart

Dallas Stewart joined Dream Team Racing Stable in early 2011 and will begin training the first two year old purchase for the stable this year co-owned in partnership.  Since taking out his trainer's license in 1985, Dallas has learned the trade wonderfully and has distinguising himself as one of the top trainers in the country.  In 1997, his career took a positive turn when he was hired as an exercise rider and assistant to the D. Wayne Lukas barn in Louisiana.  He later became the lead trainer to Lukas' division in Kentucky where he led the barn until he went out on his own.

In 2000, Dallas won his first training title at Keeneland's Spring meet.  He has also saddled eight horses in Breeders' Cup races including winning the Distaff (now Ladies' Classic) with Unbridled Elaine on the way to making her a $3.8 million earner.  In 2008, his three year old Macho Again (Macho Uno) finished second in the Preakness and a year later won the G1 Stephen Foster Handicap and G2 New Orleans Handicap.  Macho Again was also a fast closing second in the G1 Woodward Stakes behind eventual Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra.  Lemons Forever provided Dallas a landmark moment when she rallied from last place to win the 2006 Kentucky Oaks and later in the year competed in the Breeders' Cup Distaff.

Dallas manages his string of about 40 horses between the Fair Grounds and Kentucky and continues to compete at the highest levels as he did in 2010 with Seeking the Title when she won the G3 Iowa Oaks and finishing second in the G3 Monmouth Oaks and third in the G2 Fair Grounds Oaks.  We are excited to have Dallas on our team and look forward to long and successful relationship together.

John D. "JD" & Carole Rio

John D. “JD” and Carole Rio’s relationship with Dream Team Racing Stable goes back to the first horse raced under the DTRS silks.  Both Rios, as former professional riders, have been breaking horses successfully for years and are one of the critical pieces to the stable’s successes in preparing them for their journey to the race track.  The Rios’ hands-on approach to raising young horses provides the foundation for each equine athlete to perform at the top of their potential and includes proper training, environment and nutrition.

The results of their efforts consistently show up in their horses running and winning of graded stakes races.  It is interesting to note that Carole Rio has also reached the pinnacle of another training profession.  She has been honored as one of the few trainers to have won first place twice at the Westminster Show (Westminster Kennel Club).

The Rios take great care to ensure that the well-being of the horse is paramount and they are the ideal partners to DTRS’ developmental approach.
