Hoosier Spirit

A 2012 IN bred colt by Old Fashioned

We are pleased to introduce an Old Fashioned yearling colt named Hoosier Spirit.  He is a half-brother (same mother) to our own Hoosier Hero who has a win, a second and a third in his first three races. With 2YO Old Fashioned colts averaging over $123,800 at the sales, we are thrilled to be able to present yet another offering with such genuine value already built in.

Old Fashioned was a heck of a runner himself and very precocious being undefeated as a 2YO.  He only raced six times due to an injury but won four of those races and finished second in his only two loses while earning over $583,000 in those six starts.  He won the G2 Remsen Stakes and the G3 Southwest Stakes and finished second in the G1 Arkansas Derby and G2 Rebel Stakes.  Old Fashioned is by Unbridled’s Song and has a super pedigree and breeding.  His first runners are just hitting the track and he already has three winners including the awesome Sweet Whiskey, who won a Maiden Special Weight on the dirt at Saratoga a couple weeks ago, going the 5.5 furlong distance in an eye-popping 1:02.4, just missing the Saratoga track record in just his first start.

Hoosier Spirit is from the dam named Devilish Amour.  She was a winner herself and has had three winners out of four starters, including our own Hoosier Hero.  We believe that Hoosier Hero may be the best 3YO Indiana bred horse in Indiana, so when the opportunity came to privately purchase his brother, it was a no-brainer because Hoosier Spirit’s father (Old Fashioned) was a great horse and his mother produces winners.  We are just thrilled to have him in our barn.

Hoosier Spirit is bred on a 5 x 5 cross from both Bold Ruler (Secretariat’s sire) and Raise A Native.  His pedigree is loaded with prominent successful horses and believe that he also has a pedigree that screams success.

Hoosier Spirit physically is very athletic and looks like he will have some speed and were thrilled when he vetted clean.  We think he may be precocious like his father so we are aiming to have him ready to race early – possibly in April at Keeneland or in May at Indiana Downs as he is pointed to race in the Midwest circuit (Kentucky, Indiana, etc.).

We strongly recommend him for your consideration and as an Indiana bred, he is eligible for the lucrative Indiana bred races.  Like Hoosier Hero, we think he can be a very profitable and fun horse to own.
